Overview

The beautiful city of Mahabalipuram is located in the Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu, not far from Chennai. It is a historic town with a rich collection of sculptures and temples among other attractions. The city, under the Pallava rulers, developed a distinct architectural style that contributed greatly towards the advancement of the Dravidian architecture. Many of the monuments in the city have great significance. The Panch Rathas, made from granite rock, named after the Pandavas, Thirukadalmallai the temple of Lord Vishnu and the Sculpture Museum with many stone and wood sculpture are some of the main attractions in Mahabalipuram. The Shore Temple has been restored, but the antique look has been maintained due to the erosion of the carvings. The city also boasts a good collection of structures carved out of stone - Arjuna's Penance, Krishna's Butterball, and Mahishamard.

Tour Plan

Day 01:- Chennai - Mahabalipuram (60 kms/ 1.5 hours drive)

Arrive in Chennai Airport / Railway stations drive off to Mahabalipuram. On arrival, check-in to the hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 02 - Mahabalipuram Local Sightseeing

After Breakfast, Enjoy a Local sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram including visits to Arjuna's Penance, Five Rathas, Shore Temple, Tiger Cave and Krishna's Butter Ball. Return to your hotel after the tour and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 03 - Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry (160 kms/ 4 hours drive)

After Morning Breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Pondicherry, which is a former French colony. The town still retains a French influence in its architecture, surroundings and planning. On arrival, check-in to your hotel and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 04 - Pondicherry Local Sightseeing

After Morning Breakfast, Visit the Aurobindo Ashram founded by a Bengali philosopher, Aurobindo, in the early 20th century. In the afternoon, you will have the option to visit Auroville or relax on the beach. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 05 - Pondicherry - Madurai (324 Kms/ 8-9 Hrs)

Today, early morning breakfast proceed to Madurai. On your arrival, check-in at the hotel. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 06 - Madurai Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, enjoy a Sightseeing tour of this bustling pilgrimage city whose life revolves around the great Meenakshi Temple, which dominates the old city. This temple with its Gopurams (pyramidal gateway towers) is covered with a profusion of multi- coloured images of mystical figures, animals and gods. Also visit Tirumalai Nayak Palace and the Gandhi Museum. Thereafter, return to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 07 :- Madurai - Rameshwaram (172.6 km / 2 hr 54 min )

After breakfast, drive off to Rameshwaram. Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel and proceed for a local tour of the town. one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Legend says that Ramanatha Swamy Temple stands where Lord Rama performed worship of a Sand Lingam made by Sita. Other places of interest in Rameshwaram are Ramanathaswamy Temple, Dhanushkodi, Agnitheertham Gandamadana Parvatham etc. Stay overnight at your hotel in Rameshwaram.

Day 08 :- Rameshwaram - Kanyakumari ( 309.1 km / 5 hr 36 min )

After breakfast, proceed to Kanyakumari. The Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal merge at Kanyakumari. It is an important pilgrimage center for Hindus. Upon arrival in Kanyakumari, check-in at the hotel and proceed on a visit to Vevakananda Rock, Gandhi Museum and Kumari Amman Temple. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 09 - Kanyakumari to Kovalam (84 km / 2.5 hours)

After Morning Breakfast then drive Kovalam. Visit to local sightseeing then Enjoy the leisure time at Beach. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10 - Drive from Kovalam - Trivandrum (15 Kms/ 0.5 hrs)

After breakfast proceeds to Trivandrum Airport / Railway Stations .
